The Effects of Art Therapy with Utilization of Representation Media on Adolescent Depressive Symptoms

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to develop art therapy programs through Art Therapy with Utilization of Representation Media and to investigate the effects of these programs on adolescent depressive symptoms. The subject of this experimental study was a fourteen-year-old middle school student who had depressive symptoms. The Art therapy programs were preformed for fifty minutes twice a week in the first session, and once a week in the middle sessions totaling 10 sessions from July 21th to September 8th. To investigate the effects of these programs, Children's Depression Inventory(CDI), Kinetic Family Drawing(KFD), Kinetic School Drawing(KSD) and Start-Wave Test(SWT) were tested before and after. Their scores were analyzed the conclusion are as follows. First, the art therapy programs with utilization of representation media influence on decreasing adolescent depressive symptoms. The CDI test was taken to find out the changes of his depressive symptoms, and the depressive symptoms are not showed. Second, After conducting the art therapy programs with utilization of representation media, the factors projected through drawing test were the change of interpersonal relations and depressive reactions. Third, during the sessions with art therapy programs with utilization of representation media, behavior problems took place less than before. According to each sessional work through Art Therapy with Interpersonal Representations, problematic actions were improved better. Fourth, After closing the sessions with Art Therapy with programs utilization of Representation Media, 1- month follow up evaluations were showed that the effects of art therapy had been increasing even more.
